The Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA (CCI) congratulated Chevron Australia on their first LNG production for the $34 billion Wheatsone natural gas Project.
CCI Chief Executive Officer Deidre Willmott said this is a significant milestone for Chevron Australia which will drive long term economic growth and job creation for WA.
According to Chevron Australia, more than $20 billion has been spent on local goods and services since 2009, including more than $250 million committed to social and critical infrastructure in Onslow.
This has already created more than 7,000 direct jobs for Australians, and is expected to create more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs over the life of the project.
“First gas from Wheatstone heralds a new era for the project as it transitions from construction to operations,” Ms Willmott said.
“The ongoing operations of the Wheatstone Project will help drive business investment, job creation and economic growth, while also securing a future source of domestic gas supply for Western Australia.
“I congratulate Chevron Australia, their joint venture partners, contractors, and the Onslow community for reaching this significant milestone and look forward to seeing these efforts realised.”
